Square-foot badges rarely disclose ceiling height, infiltration, water entry or starting humidity. Use them to narrow candidates only. A warehouse with open dock doors and a sealed records room of equal area do not impose equal loads.
Gravity drainage is simple when continuous fall is available. A pump provides lift but adds electricity, tubing limits, cleaning and an overflow risk. Plan the receptor, route and failure response before choosing a cabinet.
Pints describe moisture removed; CFM describes air moved. Large or divided spaces need a distribution plan so humid air reaches the unit and dry air does not short-cycle straight back into the inlet.

Record current temperature and relative humidity at several points and times. Note outside-air leakage, open doors, wet materials, people, plants, process moisture, pool evaporation or an active water loss. Correct bulk water and unsafe conditions before treating dehumidification as the whole solution.
Next define the target. Comfort control, product protection and structural drying require different endpoints. A restoration contractor may track grains per pound and material moisture; a warehouse manager may protect inventory inside a defined relative-humidity band. The lower and faster the target, the more important performance curves, air movement and monitoring become.
Compare exact units under comparable conditions. Preserve the current specification sheet and manual. Record pints per day with its test temperature and RH, airflow, operating range, power, drain method, pump lift, duct options, dimensions, weight, noise data and certifications. Treat any missing value as an unanswered purchasing question rather than filling it with an assumption.
Finally plan ownership: filter and coil access, pump cleaning, hose routing, sensor verification, transport damage, refrigerant service, parts, local support and warranty eligibility. The cheapest listing is not inexpensive when it cannot reach the target or cannot be serviced during a project.
